Title FUEL SETTLING TANK FARM
Location Washington Dulles International Airport, Washington, D.C.
Description New bulk jet fuel tank farm consisting of three 8.1 million gallon tanks, two truck fillstands and a 12" pipeline to the airport'sexisting hydrant fuel farm. The tank farm receives jet fuel from Colonial pipeline. Corish Engineering served as the general contractor's aviation fuel facility construction, training, O&M manual and commissioning consultant. We also assisted the GC in inspecting the work of their subcontractors and developing completion punch-lists.

Title EXTEND FUEL OIL TANK FILL LINES
Location U.S. Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.
Description Design project to provide a fuel delivery truck offload station at the base heating plant. Delivery trucks currently park on the concrete roof of the tank vaults. The Air Force wanted more setback between the offloading positions and the heating plant. The design includes new piping as required to maintain gravity drop delivery of Number 2 fuel oil to the nine existing tanks. An electronic system for monitoring tank levels, controlling vault sump pumps and alarming high level conditions was provided. We also increased the tank vent heights and diameters, to accommodate any potential liquid surge up the risers should a truck drop into an already full tank. Corish Engineering served as the clientıs fuel system design consultant.

Title FORWARD OPERATING SITE
Location Joint U.S. and Romanian Military Base, Romania
Description Design-build project to refurbish and upgrade an existing Soviet-era military base. Work included a new fuel facility with two 5000 barrel tanks for bulk storage of JP-8 and ground fueling systems for JP-8, diesel and mogas. The bulk facility receives fuel via a single truck offload station, and issues via two truck fill stands. We provided an independent review of the fuel facility piping design and participated in design-build team conferences. We also coordinated the reviews of the cathodic protection and bulk tank engineering sub-consultants.

Title POL TANKS
Location U.S. Military Base, Iraq
Description Fast-track design-build project for a new bulk diesel fuel tank farm, consisting of four 250,000 gallon bolted steel tanks. Fuel delivered by trucks at five stations, via a gravity drop system. Fuel issued to trucks at two fill stands. Corish Engineering provided an independent review of the tank and piping design by client's engineering consultant. We also provided piping fabrication spool drawings to facilitate field erection.

Title ANA BULK FUEL STORAGE DEPOT
Location Afghan National Army Facilities, Afghanistan
Description Design for repairs, modifications and upgrades of two fuel depots in Afghanistan. The work is part of reconstruction efforts managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The facilities will be used by the Afghan National Army. The depots, built by the Soviet Union during their occupation of Afghanistan, have a combined bulk storage capacity of 5600 cubic meters. Eighteen cut and cover tanks store jet fuel, avgas, mogas, diesel and kerosene. Our design work included replacement of most piping and all equipment and valves associated with eight truck offloading stations and eleven truck fill stands. Other work included the cleaning and repair of all fuel storage tanks, provision of barrel loading stations for all product grades, and provision of a retail fueling station dispensing mogas and diesel. Corish Engineering served as the fuel system design consultant for the prime engineering firm.

Title PIPELINE REPAIR
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, Republic of Korea
Description Emergency repair of a JP-8 pipeline which was exposed and damaged during repair of an adjacent sewer main. Corish Engineering served as the fuel system design consultant for the prime engineering firm.

Title CONSTRUCT JP-8 TRUCK RECEIPT FACILITY
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, California
Description Design/Build project to provide two truck offload stations at an existing jet fuel storage facility. Corish Engineering provided the mechanical design as part of a multi-disciplined team consisting of three engineering firms.

Title FUEL SYSTEM ASSESSMENT
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, Florida
Description Investigated various performance deficiencies and safety concerns reported by the operators of a fuel terminal which was recently rehabilitated. Corish Engineering participated as part of a team of three engineering firms in surveying the piping system, interviewing personnel and observing pumping operations. The study resulted in a repair project which corrected system deficiencies.


Title PIPING INSPECTION
Location Commercial Oil Transshipment Facility, Bahamas
Description Inspection of two 36" diameter sub sea pipelines, one carrying crude oil and the other in ballast water service. Corish Engineering performed the preliminary investigation as the API-certified piping inspector. We developed the plan of action to complete the inspections and repair the lines as required. We recommended an in-line metal loss inspection of the crude line, which was subsequently performed.


Title DOBA BLEND PUMPING ANALYSIS
Location Commercial Oil Transshipment Facility, Bahamas
Description Analysis to determine how a relatively viscous crude oil would affect performance of three existing cargo pumps (4000 gpm, 400 hp each). The pumps were originally selected for pumping light sweet crude. The tanker was already in transit, so time was of the essence. Corish Engineering quickly performed the hydraulic analysis, confirming the client's pumps could handle the crude. This allowed the client to accept the storage contract.


Title PIPING INSPECTION
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, Japan
Description Inspection of U.S. Navy fuel terminal piping. Inspection included piping to 17 bulk tanks, two truck loading racks, two marine docks, and two railcar loading racks, & two buried, cased 8" pipelines between terminal operating units. Corish Engineering provided the API 570 certified inspector for the initial visual inspection and developed a list of required repairs and work to complete the inspection.


Title SITE MANAGEMENT AND PIPING INSPECTION SERVICES
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, Republic of Korea
Description Corish Engineering provided site management and piping inspection services to the prime engineering/construction contractor in a project to clean, inspect and repair two cut and cover JP-8 tanks at one air base and inspect the JP-8 piping at another. The tank repair project also included provision of vapor detection/alarm systems. We supervised the client's three Korean subcontractors (mechanical, electrical and tank cleaning) and one U.S. subcontractor (tank inspection). Corish Engineering represented the general contractor at each phase kickoff meeting, oversaw subcontractor compliance with safety requirements, reviewed subcontractor submittals, reviewed completed construction elements, and submitted daily reports to the general contractor. We also designed piping renovations to enhance flexibility of pit piping and facilitate filtration of bulk tank contents.

Title COOLING WATER SYSTEM
Location Automotive Component Manufacturer, Virginia
Description Modified the plant's manufacturing process cooling water system. Cooling water streams with no potential to become contaminated with oil were separated from streams which could become contaminated. This reduced oil/water separator throughput, enhancing performance and reducing overflow risk. Corish Engineering surveyed the existing piping and developed a work plan for implementation by plant personnel.

Title ADHESIVE APPLICATION SYSTEM
Location Automotive Component Manufacturer, Virginia
Description Designed new piping system for storing and metering plastic cement to a brake pad manufacturing process. The project also involved construction of a small hazardous liquid storage room within the plant, constructed for a hazardous-rated atmosphere. Corish Engineering provided engineering for the complete project, including the new room. The high viscosity of the cement (50,000 cP) presented pumping and instrumentation challenges which were successfully overcome.

Title HYDRANT FUELING SYSTEM
Location U.S. Department of Defense Facility, Maryland
Description This was a project to construct a new facility for fueling KC-135 refueling aircraft. Corish Engineering provided quality control services to the construction contractor, consisting of fueling system design review and vendor submittal reviews.
